ThickSkin is based at The Engine Room (formerly The Mill at The Pier), our creation space in the heart of Wigan.
All visitors to ThickSkin should use the Stage Door entrance at the rear of the building. This includes deliveries, office appointments, artists, freelancers, and anyone visiting the ThickSkin team.
We’re just a few minutes’ walk from Wigan Wallgate and Wigan North Western stations. The nearest public car park is on Heritage Way, opposite the Stage Door. Please take care not to park in resident-only bays.
We encourage you to use public transport whenever possible.

The Stage Door is located at the rear of Trencherfield Mill, next to the canal. Access is via the double doors on the left-hand side of the building, beneath the green Stage Door sign.

By Car
Occasional free parking is available next to the venue. To access the public car park, turn left off the A577 onto Heritage Way. Continue along the road to the left of Trencherfield Mill, passing Millside Apartments. At the end of Heritage Way you’ll find the public car park, signposted ‘Trencherfield Mill Car Park’.
Please note: The public car park cannot be accessed via the residential parking at Trencherfield Mill. Please follow Heritage Way around to the rear of the building and take care not to park in resident-only bays.
By Train
The Engine Room is approximately a six-minute walk from both Wigan Wallgate and Wigan North Western stations.
From either station, walk down Wallgate towards the A577. At Domino’s, turn left onto Heritage Way. You’ll see Trencherfield Mill directly ahead. Follow the road to the left of the mill to the rear of the building, where you’ll find the Stage Door entrance next to the canal.
By Bus
The nearest bus stop is Clayton Street. If travelling from Wigan Bus Station, you can catch the 352, 601, 603, 604 or 610 directly to Clayton Street. Alternatively, it’s around a 15-minute walk.
From Clayton Street, walk towards Domino’s and turn left onto Heritage Way. You’ll see Trencherfield Mill directly ahead. Follow the road to the left of the mill to the rear of the building, where you’ll find the Stage Door entrance next to the canal.
